The Course Outline Portal offers two sets of privacy options for instructors building their outlines.
Overall Privacy
In the top righthand corner of the outline editor, you will see a toggle for the overall privacy of your outline.
By default, the toggle is set to “General Public.” At this level of privacy, anyone is able to read your outline once it is published. Clicking on the toggle will give you two other options for privacy: “Campus Community” and “My Students.” At “Campus Community,” your outline will be visible only to those currently logged into the portal with their MacIDs. “My Students” will make your outline visible only to people currently enrolled in your course.
Component-Specific Privacy
You also have the option to set specific parts of your outline(s) as private. At the top of each component, you’ll see a toggle for “Public.”
When set to “Public,” a component will be visible to anyone who has access to your outline. If the outline is set to “General Public,” your “Public” components will be visible to everyone. If your outline is set to “Campus Community,” your “Public” components will be visible to anyone currently logged in. But you can also switch individual components to private.
When set to “Private,” a component will be visible only to students currently enrolled in your course. Even if the outline as a whole is open to the “General Public” or “Campus Community,” a private component will only appear to your students. This is a good option if you are comfortable with most information being public but have concerns just about one or two sections.
If your outline is set to “My Students,” all components become locked to “Private.”
